Our world is full of awesome. I think if we focused on the awesome, not only would we be happier, but those around us would be in awe of it as well. We could change the world with awesome!
What is “Awesome?” In short, it is something that is so amazing, it lacks a real description and so we say “awesome.” Like the song by Rich Mullins, “Awesome God.” It means something of particular wonder and goodness.
For thousands of years, God has inspired mankind to do incredible things. From trekking across the globe to bringing His Good News to places where it could literally cost them their lives for the effort. Inspiring men to reach out to the stars, create life saving machines and vaccines. Compete for the ultimate achievements in sports and human endeavors. Giving glory, all the while, to the God who made them.
There’s nothing more amazing than to see a football player’s crazy acrobatic moves to cross the goal line, making the score. Then getting to his feet and pointing to Heaven, an act of thank you to God, a mere second before the team piles onto him in celebration. Or even the Oscar receiver telling the world they thank God first and foremost.
But Awesome also applies to that pastor who has persevered for 30 years, praying daily, fighting the attacks and the temptations to help usher in revival in his church. The woman who forsook all relationships to pour herself into the work of saving a dying world. The child who recognizes who God is at 5 or 6 years old and quietly leads grandpa in a prayer of salvation.
Awesome is a single mother who never stops working, never gives up on her kids, mows the lawn by herself, and struggles to get her kids all into college because that is what love is. Awesome is fighting the overwhelming odds to stay in business because it is who you are. It’s your calling. Awesome is having a place that hands out furniture, clothing and a million other needs for free. Even knowing someday those bills might catch up to you and shut you down. Awesome is seeing the need and not just saying how terrible it is, but doing something about it.
Awesome is spending your every waking hour molding a 150 high school kids into such an amazing music conglomerate that the Rose Parade is honored to have you marching and playing down their 5 mile route. Going to the moon. Finishing a marathon. Designing an architectural wonder. Painting a portrait that will amaze the eyes for hundreds of years.
So, since I think awesome is so awesome, I am putting a new page together called “The Awesome.” It will focus on three different subjects, “Amazing Stories of Transformation,” “Tales of Love” and “Real Miracles of God.”
Amazing Stories of Transformation
This will focus on incredible tales of Salvation. How God used difficult or crazy situations to bring His Good News to someone. Stories that pull you deep into the moment and may even bring tears of joy to you.
Tales of Love
True love means sacrifice. It means giving something without getting something. Agape. Love without conditions. Sometimes it means giving up everything. Traveling to distant places to make certain that God’s love is shown to the world. Even at the cost of one’s life.
Real Miracles of God
God is still in the miracle business. He still goes way beyond. We find ourselves satisfied with getting saved. Salvation. And, while that is an amazing thing and the greatest of miracles, God doesn’t stop there. He also makes cancer disappear. Heals broken bones. Mends muscles and restores sight. He still does it today just as in the Bible.
So, this is forthcoming and may not be up for a while. Watch the upcoming events page, 2017, for more info. And please contact me here if you have a story you think might be appropriate for one of these categories. I cannot guarantee I will use it, but if I do, I will credit you and/or your source.
