Greetings in the awesome name of Jesus! Blessings today!
Facebook is a great resource for many different things like opinions, news, quotes, videos, jokes and just about anything you want. It’s also a hotbed for the negative. People will spout all sorts of garbage about other people, politics and so on.
One of the more popular negative posts/memes is to tell the world that you will not be used. “I will never be taken advantage of again.” Don’t get me wrong, I think God’s wisdom teaches us not to be taken advantage of. You know, all that “Do not cast your pearls before swine.” But I know we can be so worried about someone doing that to us that we forget the charity of Christ.
As Christians, our existence is meant to love the world. Remember, that’s what this whole thing is all about, Crazy Amazing Love.
I sat in a court room not long ago and was amazed at the “un-desirables” in the place. Several had their backpacks with them. Likely all they had in the world. Few had even brushed or combed their hair that morning. Drug altered individuals abounded. No suits and ties. And several needed a bath. The evidence of the worlds influence was everywhere. I saw very little evidence of Christians influence. Including myself.
At the impatience I had within me, I felt a rebuke from the Holy Spirit. “I came for these as much as anyone.”
We are so ready to crush people, we forget that Jesus’ love for us is the same for them. Please use wisdom, but don’t forget to love people before you judge them. Imagine this…
One Sunday morning, as people shuffled into church, a dirty, scruffy homeless man meandered around the front door, asking for help. No one helped. One of the elders threatened him with calling the police if he didn’t stop bugging people.
Church got underway. It was worship as usual. Then announcements. The kids left for their church and the offering was taken up. That’s when people realized that the pastor wasn’t present. Yep, you guessed it, he was the bum. He walked up the middle aisle with the hoody over his head. People took notice of him suddenly and panic filled the room. The elder who had threatened him had his cell phone out, getting ready to dial 911.
The bum reached the front and turned around. With tears in his eyes, he pulled the hoody down and, despite his ruddy, unshaven face, he was instantly recognized by the room as their pastor. People were shamed and wept.
“Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by doing so, some have unwittingly entertained angels.” But, don’t do it because you are hoping to meet an angel. Do it because “YOU ARE THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD” and they need you!
We can become so concerned about being used that we become un-usable! Go out of your way for people. They need Jesus and you might be the only version they ever get to see!
