The First Fruits Farm

“Love is the most wonderful currency that you can give anyone.” -Jason Brown

Blessings for today and for tomorrow and for…Well, you know!

I found a story that is just plain beautiful! Jason Brown was a pro football center for the St. Louis Rams (now Los Angeles Rams…again).loveforothers He was a good player and had a pretty good future. After 5 years playing, the Rams decided to cut him. The Baltimore Ravens offered him a contract, but he turned them down. Instead he went and bought a 1,000 acre farm.

“My agent said, “You are making the biggest mistake of your life.” I looked him straight in the face and said, “No I am not. No I am not.”” Millionaire, talented NFL player walks away from it all to grow vegetables. Seriously! But he didn’t do it because he wanted to till dirt, he did it because he wanted to give back. Thousands of pounds of sweet potatoes and other veggies have been grown on First Fruits Farm just to give to the needy. No profit, no benefits, just for the hungry.

Have you ever heard someone talking about getting a lot of money and saying something like, “I would give a bunch to build a church.” Or send it to missions? Or do something great for God? We have all heard it or said it. But, most of us never get the kind of money we are talking about here anyway, but from some of the stories I’ve heard and read, most people that come into money end up doing very little. Their mind and heart change with the change in their finances. But, Jason’s didn’t.

He took the money he had gotten from his contract ($25 million), bought the farm and started learning how to farm. From advice of those around him and YouTube! Click here for his website. With the plan, all along, to feed people who couldn’t afford to feed themselves.

Love for your fellow man is a part of who we are in Christ. If you cannot love your neighbor, you cannot love Jesus! (Matt 22:37-40) There are no other options. All of the Old Testament hangs on it. In other words, our love for mankind is second only to our love for God. AND, you cannot have one without the other. I want you to get that. You cannot have one without the other! The greatest way to show our love to God is to show love for others! And that’s a reflection. You will show the world how much you love God by showing the world how much you love them. Okay, I think I made that point.

Take a moment and watch the video about Jason. Click here. Pretty awesome. And a note, the video is 2+ years old, so a lot has changed.

I love to write. I write books, blogs, articles. Mostly about God and His amazing blessings. Sometimes about other things. But mostly about God. I have a fixation on comma. Please forgive me if you see too many of them.
