Random Studies II – Psalm 84

randomSo, a quick note for those who might not have read my last “Random Study,” I will sometimes take and open an online Bible site (usually Bible Gateway, an amazing resource – check it out here, biblegateway.com) and take the “verse of the day” and do a study on the whole chapter. In this case, it was Psalm 84. Basically, I read the verse or passage/paragraph, then comment after it what I feel God is teaching us from there. Please feel free to comment and correct me on anything. I can take it!

Psalm 84

1 How lovely is Your tabernacle, O Lord of hosts!
-God is so amazing that even the place that He is in is turned into something beautiful and wonderful. So, if He dwells in us, that makes us something beautiful and wonderful.

2 My soul longs, yes, even faints
For the courts of the Lord;
My heart and my flesh cry out for the living God.
-The more we know about God, the more we want Him. The more we desire to be in His presence. To be around Him, to know Him and let Him have control of us and all that happens in our lives. To dwell in His home, the courts of God.

3 Even the sparrow has found a home,
And the swallow a nest for herself,
Where she may lay her young—
Even Your altars, O Lord of hosts,
My King and my God.
-In that place, we re-produce our young. Not just those who are our physical offspring, but those we reproduce in the Spirit. To bring them and lay them at His alters.

4 Blessed are those who dwell in Your house;
They will still be praising You. Selah
-Blessings come in many forms. They are not always physical. Not always money and homes. But, sometimes they are. Still the greatest blessings from God are Spiritual and eternal.

5 Blessed is the man whose strength is in You,
Whose heart is set on pilgrimage.
6 As they pass through the Valley of Baca,
They make it a spring;
The rain also covers it with pools.
7 They go from strength to strength;
Each one appears before God in Zion.
We are blessed first when we depend on God. When our battles are His battles, when our abilities are His abilities. When we win, it is His victory. That is what it means when our strength is in Him. He carries us, holds us up and guides our hand. And, guides us as we travel this life. Is the One Who is there where ever we turn because we choose to make sure He is. That out “pilgrimage” is always to come closer to Him as well as forward. Not every valley will be hard. Not every mountain will be easy. But He will be there with us for each. Some places we will bring joy and wonder to. We will affect it in a way that leaves it better. Sometimes it will bring us down. Sometimes the place we are at will affect us. It will be difficult to get through. Hard to understand. And filled with pain. We will become dependent upon past victories. We will need to cleave to Jesus, always seeking Him to remember He is near. Realizing we are winning, but knowing sometimes it just doesn’t seem victorious. But, chin up, God is with us and someday, soon, the battles will ceas, the war won and we will stand before God in the Holiest, in Zion.

8 O Lord God of hosts, hear my prayer;
Give ear, O God of Jacob! Selah
9 O God, behold our shield,
And look upon the face of Your anointed.
-Father of all power and greatest strength, please listen to my prayer. Listen please to what I have to say to You. God of Israel (and me) please listen. Look at me, I am holding a shield. You see I am in battle, trying to survive. Look at my face, the one You anointed. I am weary from battle.

10 For a day in Your courts is better than a thousand.
I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God
Than dwell in the tents of wickedness.
-I would rather be in your presence than anywhere in the world. I would rather be the in lowest position in your house that to have the greatest place in the world of wickedness. To own the mansions of Beverly Hills, the towers of New York, the richest of the world is nothing than to be in your house oh Lord.

11 For the Lord God is a sun and shield;
The Lord will give grace and glory;
No good thing will He withhold
From those who walk uprightly.
12 O Lord of hosts,
-Blessed is the man who trusts in You!
God is more powerful that the sun and even more powerful than what is needed to shield against the sun. He will always give grace to us and His presence. His glory.
He will not withhold good from us. From those who belong to Him.
God’s people, those who follow Him and depend on Him will be blessed.

Hope you enjoyed it, blessings!

I love to write. I write books, blogs, articles. Mostly about God and His amazing blessings. Sometimes about other things. But mostly about God. I have a fixation on comma. Please forgive me if you see too many of them.
